Description

Lancaut Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the 17th century, with significant modifications made in the 18th century. The building is rendered and features a slate roof with a gable stack on the right and a large ridge stack with three diagonally-set flues located off-centre to the left of the lobby entrance. It is a long, narrow structure that sits across the slope of the land and has undergone considerable internal modifications.

The east front is two storeys high with four windows, all fitted with good replacement 12-pane sash windows set on stone cills. The ground floor on the left has a pair of 20th-century glazed doors. In the second bay, there is a pair of two-panel doors beneath a four-pane transom light. The left gable rises to 3½ storeys and includes a basement with two-light casements in arched openings.

The back elevation is two storeys tall and features a narrow projecting gabled unit on the far right, with various windows. Notably, there is an off-centre three-light ovolo-mould wood casement with vertical iron bars and an old shutter at ground floor level on the right, as well as a small square opening with old leading. The upper gable previously had an entrance at first floor level leading to a stone staircase, which is now blocked.

Inside, there is a good 17th-century cupboard front in a deep niche in the kitchen, and one bedroom contains a cupboard with a two-panel fielded door and some surrounding contemporary panelling. Some stone flooring can be found in a cupboard at first floor level, above the lobby entrance area. The roof structure was not inspected. This farmhouse stands in isolation and has a complex history of development.
