Description
The Constans monument is a chest tomb located in the churchyard, approximately 9 meters southeast of the southeast corner of the tower of the Church of St. Peter and St. Paul. This tomb dates from the first half of the 18th century and is made of stone. It features a flat lid with a simply moulded edge.
On the south side, the main center is flanked by narrow panels that include a carved head with swags. The north side has a single panel that is fully lettered, with carved heads centrally placed at each end, each accompanied by an open book below. The ends of the tomb have projecting consoles with leaf carving on the long-side face, framing an irregular circle marked by scrolls and swags.
The inscription commemorates Richard Constans, who died in 174-, and was a tenant at Grange Court. There are additional inscriptions for other family members, dating back to 1681. A nearby monument also commemorates the same family.
