Description
The Wilkins Monument is a tall chest tomb located in the churchyard about 2 meters northwest of the north porch of the Church of St. Peter and St. Paul. It dates from the late 18th century and is made of stone. The tomb features a flat lid with a moulded edge and sides that slightly project, mirroring the shape of the lid and plinth. Each side has tall flanking panels, with a narrow margin in the center leading to the raised main part, which has a simply-moulded edge. The flanking sections consist of tall fielded panels, while the ends have raised panels similar to the main part of the sides. The entire structure rests on a moulded base, which is set on a very wide flat stone base, and there is no evidence of railings. The word 'ENTRANCE' is carved on the east face of the flat base. The monument commemorates James Wilkins, his wife, and their sons, with a later inscription noting that the wife died in 1787.
