Description
The Cannock monument is a pedestal tomb located about 9 meters south of the south-west corner of the Church of St. Peter and St. Paul in Westbury-on-Severn. It commemorates John Cannock of Elton, who died in 1813, and is made of stone. The tomb features indented corners and a flat lid with a moulded edge. Above the lid, there is a slight step set back, topped with a low pyramid cap. The frieze displays alternating vertical triple reeds and paterae. The east and west faces have raised rectangular panels with well-indented semi-circular heads, moulded edges, and oval paterae carved in the flat surface of the spandrels. The north and south faces are similar but have flush panels with outlines formed by triple reeds. The plinth has a moulded top and rests on a flat stone base. There are later inscriptions present on the monument.
