Description
The barn and adjoining sheep shelters at Hayes, located about 40 meters to the northeast, date from the early 17th century. The barn is constructed of thin coursed rubblestone and features a roof with several rows of stone tiles at the base, transitioning to double Roman tiles above. It has three bays and a central opposed cart entry with wooden lintels and jambs. There are single long slit vents flanking the doors on each side of the barn, along with a square opening in the north gable. The roof structure consists of a collar and tie beam truss with two trenched and lapped purlins. The adjacent buildings, now used as sheep shelters, are likely slightly later in date and also made of rubblestone. They feature a double Roman tile roof to the south of the barn and a stone tile roof to the southeast. At the time of the survey on July 11, 1984, these shelters were noted to be in partially ruinous condition.
