Description
This is a chest tomb located in the churchyard about 4 metres southeast of the southeast corner of the aisle to the Church of St Andrew. It dates from the 17th century and is made of sandstone. The tomb features a thick flat top with a moulded edge and sunk panels that have enriched moulded surrounds. The base was found to be sunk at the time of survey in September 1983. There are remains of an inscription on the top, along with well-preserved inscriptions in all capitals, dedicated to the daughter of William Smart, dated 16..8. This monument is one of two very fine early monuments, located about 2 metres north of the monument to William Smart.
