Description
The Bennett monument is a chest tomb located in the churchyard, about 3.5 meters south of the southeast corner of the south aisle of the Church of St. Peter and St. Paul. It dates from the first decade of the 19th century and is made of stone. The tomb features a flat lid with a moulded edge and slightly indented corners on the long sides. The sides have a moulded frame surrounding the main panel, which curves back at the edges to create relief. The ends are adorned with elongated pilasters, and the capital features egg-and-dart moulding. There is a raised panel on the main face of the shaft, with the ends of one on the short returns cut short by the main body of the tomb. The plinth has a moulded top. This monument commemorates Thomas Bennett of Rodley, who died in 1809, and his daughter, who died in 1806, along with other later inscriptions.
