Description

The Underwood Monument is a chest tomb located in the churchyard, approximately 4 meters east of the northeast corner of the porch of the Church of St. Lawrence. It commemorates Robert Underwood, who died in 1770, and is made of stone. The tomb features a flat lid with a moulded edge. The ends have elongated pilasters, with poppies and fruits depicted on the returns of the shaft. The south end displays a raised oval, while the north end features rococo carving surrounding a swelling center. The west side has a raised rectangular panel with indented segmental ends and rococo carving in the corners. The east side is a fielded panel with paterae in scalloped corners. The plinth has a moulded top.
