Description
The monument to Mary King is a chest tomb located in the churchyard about 9 metres south of the southwest buttress of the tower of the Church of St Mary. It dates from the mid-18th century and is made of sandstone. The tomb features a thick flat top with a chamfered edge and bolstered ends. At the time of the survey in November 1983, the base was noted to be sunk. The tomb commemorates Mary King, who died in 1781, but it likely follows an earlier design. It is part of a triangular group of three tombs in this area, with the other two being unidentified.
