Description
The monument to William Harris is located in the churchyard approximately 4.5 metres south of the south porch of the Church of St Andrew. This chest tomb dates from the early to mid 18th century and is made of sandstone. It features a flat top with an inscription and a moulded edge, along with quarter balusters. There is a fielded panel with an inscription on the north side, but the monument is badly overgrown and the base was not visible during the survey in September 1983. The earliest legible inscription is for William Harris, a sail-maker, dated 1799, although the design reflects an earlier style from the 18th century. This monument is part of a group of six located south of the porch, immediately east of the Richard Barrow monument.
