Description
The Gough Monument is a chest tomb located in the churchyard, approximately 1 metre south-east of the south-east corner of the south porch of the Church of St Peter and St Paul. It was likely created around 1833 and is made of stone. The tomb features a flat lid with a moulded edge and slightly indented ends on the long face. The sides have a raised edge leading to a panel, adorned with egg-and-dart moulding, and the centre swells out beyond the frame. The ends are designed with elongated pilasters that have a raised panel on the stem, also featuring egg-and-dart edge moulding. All of this is set on a moulded plinth. The monument bears various inscriptions, likely commemorating William Gough, who died in 1833, as well as Robert Gough, who died in 1792, and his wife, who died in 1778, with the latest inscription dating to 1886.
