Description
The Wintle monument is a chest tomb located in the churchyard, about 4 meters south of the tower of the Church of St. Peter and St. Paul. It dates from the first half of the 18th century and is made of stone. The tomb features a flat lid with a hollow chamfer. On the north face, the center is flanked by narrow panels, with the central head originally having wings and drapery at the corners that hangs down to frame the panel. The flanking panels include carvings of flowers and fruit. The ends of the tomb are lyre-shaped, with leaf carvings on the narrow faces; the west end is plain, while the east end has scrolls and a serpent of eternity in the center. The monument shows signs of weathering. The main inscription is partly lost, but it notes children who died in the 1720s on the west end. This monument is part of a close group of five listed Wintle monuments.
