Description

This is a late 17th-century barn located adjacent to the farmhouse on the south side of Five Acres Farm. The barn is timber-framed and has stone end and outer walling. The roof is tiled on the south side and corrugated iron on the north side. It has a rectangular plan with five bays, featuring two cart entries positioned centrally. The roof slopes down over lean-to structures that flank the cart entry on the north side. A cart entry on the south side projects outwards, but the roofline was altered to accommodate a large 20th-century extension. Internally, the roof structure comprises collar and tie beams with two struts and two trenched purlins. The timber framing between the post bays is divided into nine equal-sized squares by two vertical and two horizontal members. The central bay has diagonal bracing, situated between four vertical posts and two sill beams across the floor. The end walls also incorporate this diagonal bracing. Ventilation slits are present on the east wall.
