Description
The Carpenter monument is a chest tomb located in the churchyard, about 1.5 meters south of the southeast corner of the vestry at the Church of St. Peter and St. Paul. This tomb dates from the first half or mid-18th century and is made of stone. It features a flat lid with a hollow chamfer along its widely projecting edge. The corners are adorned with quarter-square gadrooned bulbous balusters. The main section of the sides displays linked scrolls at the top and sides, which are flanked by narrow carved panels. The west end has a slight margin leading to a recessed panel, while the east end is eroded. The main inscription, which is now largely illegible, commemorates the daughter of Henry and Joan Carpenter, who died in 1739.
