Description
The Wintle Monument is a short chest tomb located in the churchyard about 11 metres south of the south aisle, west of the porch of the Church of St Peter and St Paul. It commemorates Thomas Wintle, who died in 1780, and is made of stone. The tomb features a flat lid with a moulded edge and slightly indented corners on the long sides. On the north face, there is a large circle formed by a raised rim, likely representing the serpent of eternity, with leaf decoration in the spandrels. The south face has a raised panel with a narrow margin, and the sides appear to be made of a different stone. The ends of the tomb are adorned with elongated pilasters, with capitals featuring triple flutings alternating with paterae, and pendant leaf moulding on the short returns. The main face of the shaft has a moulded edge to a sunk panel, and the base has a moulded top.
