Description
The Cadle monument is a chest tomb located in the churchyard about 14 meters north-north-east of the north-east corner of the tower of the Church of St. Peter and St. Paul in Westbury-on-Severn. It commemorates Joseph Cadle, who died in 1745, and is made of stone. The tomb features a flat lid with a simply moulded edge and quarter-square gadrooned bulbous corner balusters. The south side has a central design flanked by tall rectangles, with a head at the center that has wings at the top and drapery flowing down the sides. The end rectangles display a pendant ring at the top from which various flowers hang. The ends have rectangular panels framed with rococo carving. The north side mirrors the south in basic form but features rococo carving throughout. This monument is very fine and well preserved and is part of a group of Cadle monuments, with four others listed.
