Description
The Deykes Monument is an early 19th-century pedestal tomb located in the churchyard, about 1.5 meters north of the vestry door of the Church of St. Mary. It is made of stone and features a small pyramid top with a fluted edge that sweeps down to two steps leading to a flat lid with a moulded edge. The monument has a fluted frieze that originally included end and centre paterae, although these have weathered away over time. The sides of the tomb have a flat margin surrounding a sunk rectangular panel, with a slightly raised oval and leaf carving in the spandrels. The base is moulded. This monument commemorates William Deykes, who died in 1827, and his wife, who died in 1807.
