Description
The Cannock monument is a pedestal tomb located in the churchyard, about 8 meters south-south-west of the south-west corner of the Church of St. Peter and St. Paul. It was likely built around 1800 and is made of stone. The tomb features a square, reeded dome topped with a small cap, resting above a cavetto moulding and a fillet to the cyma. The wide projecting lid has a moulded edge and indented corners, with cyma moulding on both the lid and the main body. The fluted frieze includes raised oval panels on each side, adorned with leaves that hang over the top third, with different types of leaves on each face. The monument has a moulded base and is inscribed with well-cut lettering that records the death of Lancelet Cannock in 1796, along with his wife and one of their sons, the last in 1840.
