Description
Seahaven is a small house built in 1848 for the National Co-operative Land Company by F. O'Connor. The building has been altered and extended over time. It features smooth render over brickwork and a slate roof. The front has three bays, with a parallel gabled rear extension that is single-storey. The slightly projecting gabled centre bay has a mid-20th century part-glazed door, with original small-pane single-light windows on either side. There is a plain string course at the front of the gable, a quatrefoil ventilator above, and a slightly projecting verge course with plain verge rafters supported by shaped corbels at the foot. On the left side, there is a mid-20th century two-light casement window, while on the right is an original small-pane two-light casement. Both wings have a slightly projecting eaves course. The building has chimneys only at the foot of the end gables, with the centre rear chimney remaining intact. The left return has an M-shaped roof. Seahaven is listed mainly for its historical and sociological interest and forms a group with other Chartist cottages and the school nearby. Originally, it was part of a 3-acre plot.
