Description
Pixie Acre is a small house built in 1848 for the National Co-operative Land Company by F. O'Connor. The house features wet-dash render on brickwork and a slate roof. It has a three-bay front that is 16 rooms deep, with the center bay projecting slightly and topped with a gable. The entrance includes a glazed front door with narrow casement windows on either side, and there is a plain string course at the base of the gable, which has a quatrefoil ventilator above. The roof has plain rafters supported by shaped corbels at the foot, and there is a timber plaque at the apex. Each end bay contains a two-light casement window. While the proportions of the openings remain unchanged, the windows and door were replaced in the late 20th century. The house has brick gable chimneys at both ends and a third chimney at the rear center. Originally, it was situated on a 2-acre plot. Pixie Acre is listed mainly for its historical and sociological significance and forms a group with other Chartist cottages.
