Description

Kincaroy is a small house built in 1848 for the National Co-operative Land Company by F. O'Connor. The building has been altered and extended in the 20th century. It features painted brick with a stone plinth and a slate roof. The front has three bays and extends to the rear and to the right, with a single storey. The centre slightly projects with a gabled design, and there is a timber porch with a half-glazed door and a corrugated-iron roof, leading to another half-glazed door for the house. On either side of the porch are original-pattern single-light windows with flat rubbed brick arches above. A plain string course runs across the front of the gable, with a stone quatrefoil ventilator above it, and the brick verge slightly projects with plain verge rafters supported by shaped corbels at the front. The end bays have 2-light casement windows in the original pattern, also with flat rubbed brick arches, and a slightly projecting brick eaves course. There is a brick chimney located behind the centre of the house. To the right, there is a felt-roofed, painted brick extension, and to the left, a two-storey building that is not of special interest. Originally, this property was part of a 2-acre holding. Kincaroy is listed mainly for its historical and sociological significance and is part of a group with other Chartist cottages and the Prince of Wales Inn.
