Description
The Lloyd monument is a chest tomb located in the churchyard, about 8 meters south of the east side of the porch of the Church of St. Michael and All Angels. This tomb dates from the mid to late 18th century and is made of stone. It features a flat lid with a moulded edge, resting above a fluted frieze. The sides of the tomb have a rectangular, fielded panel in the center, flanked by quarter rectangular gadrooned balusters, which have a fluted stem and egg-and-dart moulding at the top of the capital. The entire structure is set on a cyma base, which is placed on larger flat stone paving. The ends of the tomb are a compressed version of the sides. It commemorates Joseph Lloyd of Gunsmills, who died in 1761, and includes four other inscriptions from the 18th century and one from 1842. The lettering is well cut. Joseph Lloyd was the owner of a paper mill at Guns Mills in Little Dean. The monument is situated close to a pedestal tomb for the same family.
