Description
The monument to Thomas Rothery is a chest tomb located in the churchyard, approximately 2 metres west of the south-west buttress of the tower of the Church of St Mary. It dates from the late 18th century and is made of sandstone. The tomb features a flat top with a chamfered edge, quarter balusters, and plain panels. The base is sunk, and during the survey in November 1983, it was noted that the north panel had collapsed and the top was broken. The monument commemorates Thomas Rothery, who died in 1731, and William Rottery, who died in 1789, with the later date reflecting the design style of the monument. It is situated immediately to the north of a similar, unidentified monument.
