Description
The Fryer monument is a short chest tomb located in the churchyard about 8 meters south-west of the south-west corner of the tower of the Church of St. Peter and St. Paul in Westbury-on-Severn. It dates from the late 18th century and is made of stone. The tomb features a flat lid with a moulded edge that is slightly indented along its long side. The sides are adorned with a large circle formed by a raised, moulded rim, with tendrils and leaves in the corners. The ends of the tomb have elongated pilasters with fluted capitals and fluting on the short returns, while the main face of the shaft also has a circle formed by a raised, moulded rim. There are various inscriptions on the monument, some of which are weathered, with a probable date of the 1770s or 1780s.
