Description
The monument to Elizabeth Woodrofe is located in the churchyard about 10 metres southeast of the southeast corner of the chancel of the Church of St Andrew. This Grade II* listed structure is a lofty chest tomb dating from the mid-17th century, made of sandstone. It features a flat top with a moulded edge over a deep frieze, panelled corner pilasters, and sunk panels. The base was noted to be sunk at the time of survey in September 1983, and there is some ivy growth on the monument. The top is inscribed with 'EP 1665', while the southern inscription, presented in all capitals, reads 'ELIZABETH DAUGHTER OF JAMES WOODROFE 1665'. This family is likely the same one commemorated in the inscriptions on the gate piers at Brooken House, with the surname sometimes spelled as WOODROFF.
