Description
The Cadle monument is a late 18th-century pedestal tomb located in the churchyard about 17 meters north-north-east of the north-east corner of the tower of the Church of St. Peter and St. Paul in Westbury-on-Severn. It is made of stone and features a flat lid with indented corners and a moulded edge. The design includes a moulded base with a fillet leading to a steep cavetto moulding, which rises to a flat square cyma dome with a gadrooned edge. The north and south faces are plain, with a tooled line creating a rectangular panel for inscriptions, which have a shaped head. The east and west sides are adorned with large projecting scrolls that act as buttresses. The monument has a moulded plinth and the inscriptions record the deaths of individuals in 1766, 1787, and 1792, including children. This monument is part of a group of Cadle monuments, with four others also listed.
