Description
The Harvey Monument is a chest tomb located in the churchyard about 9 meters south of the east end of the vestry at the Church of St. Peter and St. Paul. It dates from the third quarter of the 18th century and is made of stone. The tomb features a flat lid with a moulded edge. The main panel on the sides is flanked by narrow panels at the ends, with a winged head at the center top, surrounded by flowers and pendant rings in the top corners, along with flowers and scrolls framing the panel. The flanking panels also have pendant rings at the top, with flowers, leaves, and fruit depicted below. The ends of the tomb are plain and made of a different stone, likely renewed in the 19th century, with thick plain ends framing the side panels. The monument commemorates Samuel Harvey, who died in 1768, and Daniel Harvey, who died in 1775, with later inscriptions extending up to 1869. The original inscriptions feature long s's.
