Description
Four Oaks Cattery is a house that dates from the first part of the 18th century and into the 19th century. It features brick nogged timber framing with slight timbers, and the brickwork is painted with timber framing. The roof is covered with asbestos slate and tiles. The building has three bays and includes an end lean-to facing the road. It has been extended by one bay at the right rear, forming an L shape, and stands two storeys tall with a roof that runs parallel to the road.
The facade facing the road has timber framing that is two panels high on each floor. There are three 2-light casement windows, with the ends of the main floor braces exposed between them, resting on rails. On the left side, there is a six-pane window in the lean-to. The first floor has two 2-light casements, all featuring metal opening lights. An external brick chimney is located on the left gable, and the lean-to roof is tiled.
On the right side, there is a late 20th-century boarded door situated under a gabled hood supported by curved brackets. Above this, the framing consists of three panels high, with a single-pane window on the right and a plain gable above. Adjacent to this, flush with the framing, is a slightly higher brick wing that has a 3-light casement with a cambered brick arch on each floor. There is also a boarded door leading to a single-storey lean-to extension at the gable on the right. An external brick chimney is present on the right gable, with the ridge higher than the front, and a hipped end that appears over the roof facing the road.
