Description

Tawney's Farmhouse is a house with an attached former cider house, now used as a store. It dates from the 17th century, 18th century, and 19th century. The building is constructed of random rubble stone, painted white, with brick-nogged timber-framing and a tiled roof. The farmhouse has three bays and is one room deep, with 1½ storeys, while the cider house has two bays and is partly lofted, both featuring a continuous lean-to at the rear.

The front of the farmhouse shows timber-framing on the left side, with three panels high. There is a boarded door in the center, which is slightly wider than the panel above it, and a blocked door to the right. The roof line changes slightly above this area. To the right, there is a stone wall with a three-light casement window, and above it, in the lean-to dormer, is a two-light casement window. A low wing, which is not of special interest, covers a half-glazed door and has a two-light casement window to the right. The left end has a half hip, and a chimney is located on the ridge behind the blocked door.

The right return features a timber-framed gable with corner posts and a brace extending down to the first floor beam from the post on the right. There is a three-light casement window on the ground floor to the right and a two-light window on the first floor, with V struts above the collar in the gable.

Inside, there is a wide chamfer on the ceiling beam, and a boarded door leads to the stairs, complete with original hinges, a wooden bolt, and a latch. The former cider house has a stone-set floor, with a door cut into the back wall, where the jambs are shaped for barrels. The structure has one pair of purlins and a square ridge.
