Description
Castle Tump is a 17th-century cottage featuring a timber frame that is partly built on a brick base, with brick and render infill and a thatched roof. It is a two-cell, box-framed cottage with direct entry and a central staircase. The cottage has one and a half storeys and a two-window front, with a modern door set in a porch and modern casement windows, including a casement dormer above. To the left, there is a large 17th-century external brick stack, while a smaller 19th-century stack is located to the right. The rear of the cottage has a 20th-century weatherboard and corrugated iron outshut. Inside, the frame is exposed, featuring a chamfered crossbeam, a winder stair, at least one ledged and braced door, and a principal rafter roof. The cottage is situated on the bailey round of Dymock Castle.
