Description

This is a pair of chest tombs located in the churchyard of the Church of St Mary, approximately 4 meters north of the north door. The tomb closest to the north door is dedicated to John Patten, son of Robert and Joan Patten, who died in 1783, and his wife Joan, who died in 1784. The south side features an inscription for Robert Patten, who died in 1749. The tombs are made of limestone and include a sandstone inscription plaque on the north side, adorned with fine foliate scrollwork and fluted marginal panels. The capping has a moulded margin. The second chest tomb, located about 2 meters to the south, dates from the late 18th to early 19th century and is also made of limestone. The inscriptions on both tombs are obscured by foliage, and they feature capping with a moulded margin and hipped upper capping, along with cast iron railings.
