Description

This is an 18th-century barn with an adjoining stable block located at Number 2 Lower Field Farm. The barn is constructed of coursed rubble stone with quoins, topped with a stone slate roof. The stable block has a concrete tile roof. The barn has a catslide roof over lean-tos on both sides, and a central pair of opposed entrances, only slightly higher than the lean-to roofline. These entrances have timber lintels and double timber doors, with the west-side doors set back. Internally the barn has five bays with two collar beams, but no tie beams. There are two slit vents and rows of dove perches on the south gable end, and corresponding dove perches on the north gable end. The stable block to the north has a central plank door leading to stalls, with a wooden manger along the rear wall. A small lean-to is attached to the left. A flight of 10 stone steps leads up to a gabled loft door on the right, with two square openings on the ground floor to the right of the steps. The right-hand return wall features a carved apex stone.
