Description
Little Oak is a large detached cottage, partly dating from the 17th century, with the date 1657 displayed in metal digits on a blocked apex light at the right gable end. The building underwent alterations in the late 19th century and early 20th century and has been raised on the left side. It is constructed of coursed rubble stone with quoins and features a mainly stone slate roof, with artificial stone slates on the raised left side. Originally, the cottage was likely 'L'-shaped, with the south arm being much lower, but it has since been raised and includes a 20th-century extension at the rear angle.
The cottage has two storeys. The right side features a two-light stone mullion window with some leading on both the first and ground floors, along with a recessed plank door that has a timber lintel and a raking hood to the right. There is also a two-light casement window with brick quoins on the ground floor to the left. The rear of the main section has a two-light stone mullion window on each floor, as well as a 20th-century inserted light in the former rear doorway. The lower roof line on the right gable suggests that there was once an additional range, and the gable end now has inserted 20th-century windows.
