Description
The Old Forge is a detached house dating from the late 18th to early 19th century. It is constructed of coursed squared and dressed limestone with a stone slate roof, and features a corrugated-iron single-storey outbuilding that extends from the rear right and at the back of the smithy. The building has ashlar stacks, along with one 20th-century artificial stack.
The main structure is rectangular, with a two-storey, two-windowed facade for the house section. The ground floor has three-light stone-mullioned casements, while the first floor features two-light stone-mullioned casements, some of which still have their glazing bars. Both floors are adorned with stopped hoods over the windows. The central entrance consists of a five-panel front door set within a dressed stone surround. The smithy has a top-opening window with glazing bars and double plank doors located at the far right. The gable ends have flat coping and gable-end stacks, while the smithy has an axial stack.
The interior has not been inspected.
