Description
The orangery and attached garden wall located east of Sherborne House date from the early to mid-19th century and are constructed of ashlar stone. The orangery features a flat roof, likely covered with lead, and has a rectangular plan. Its single-storey facade consists of five bays, each illuminated by large 12-pane sash windows set within moulded architraves. There are two additional similar windows on the returns, with pilasters positioned between the windows. Above the windows, there is a shallow moulded string course, and the orangery is topped with a panelled parapet that has a deep moulded cornice and intermediary piers aligned with the pilasters. The central entrance consists of part-glazed double doors.
The attached garden wall extends approximately 80 meters west towards Sherborne House and about 80 meters east before turning south for another 35 meters. The wall reaches a height of up to 5 meters and features a flat capping. Notably, there are four marble tablets commemorating dogs embedded in the wall to the right of the orangery, with inscriptions that date from 1866 to 1883.
