Description

East Lodge and its attached garden railing are located at Sherborne House and date from the early to mid-19th century. The lodge is constructed of ashlar stone with a slate roof and ashlar chimney stacks. It has a rectangular plan, with a projecting, flat-roofed stone porch on the left side. The symmetrical facade features a central two-storey square block with a two-light wooden casement window on the first floor; the former doorway below has been blocked and replaced with a fixed 12-pane light. Smaller 12-pane casement windows are located on either side. A band separates the ground and first floors. Single-storey, single-bay extensions flank the central block, each with a narrow, fixed 10-pane casement window. The rear elevation mirrors the front. The roof is hipped, and a tall ashlar stack rises from the gable end of the central block. A 19th-century, simple curving cast-iron railing is attached to the front of the lodge. The interior has not been inspected.
