Description
This is a pair of chest tombs located in the churchyard of the Church of St. Mary, approximately 9 meters north of the nave. The first tomb, closest to the nave, is dedicated to Thomas Stephens, who died in 1803, and Margaret Stephens, who died in 1809. It features a moulded plinth and inscriptions on the north and south sides within sarcophagus-shaped panels, surrounded by foliate decoration. The tomb has inset and moulded corners at either end, with a capping that includes a moulded margin and an upper capping stone.
The second tomb, situated about 2.5 meters north of the first, commemorates Betty, the wife of Thomas Stephens, who died in 1799; Thomas Stephens, who died in 1801; and Margaret Stephens, who died in 1822. This tomb has a partially legible inscription at the east end and is made of limestone. It also features a moulded plinth, oval inscription plaques on the north and south sides, foliate decoration outside the panel, and fluted columns on either side, with capping that includes a moulded margin and an upper capping stone.
