Description
This is a thatched outbuilding located approximately 8 meters north of Manor Farm in North Cerney. It is constructed from drystone limestone rubble and features a solid twig roof. The building has a curved plan and includes a 20th-century concrete block wall with a corrugated iron roof on the north side, which is not of special interest.
On the north side, there is a double-width entrance, with plank infill to the left of the opening and a low opening with a 20th-century timber lintel to the right, leading to a projecting cast iron cage. The south side of the building is open-fronted, supported by timber uprights that still retain their bark. The roof consists of a solid mass of twigs above the tie beam level, made up of strong silver birch branches that also retain their bark, all covered with thatch. This building is particularly unusual due to its plan, roof construction, and roofing material.
