Description
65 Gloucester Street is a house that has been converted into a shop with a flat above. It dates from the late 17th century and has undergone later alterations, with further external and internal changes taking place in 1990. The building is constructed of coursed squared limestone and features a concrete tile roof with no visible stack. It has one gable at the front and stands two storeys tall with an attic, presenting a two-window range.
The front has two 20th-century, two-light timber casement windows set in stone surrounds, which include mullions and transoms that have been cut out. Above, in the gable, there is a similar window with an inserted timber lintel. The late 19th-century timber shopfront is notable for its moulded pilasters on each side, a moulded cornice, and ironwork cresting. A door on the left side provides access to a passage that leads to the rear of the building. There is a moulded string course above the first floor and in the gable. The interior has been largely altered in the 20th century, featuring an enclosed winder staircase that connects the first and second floors at the front.
