Description
No. 2 Barton Lane is a house built in the early 20th century by Stanley J Wearing of Norwich for the Bathurst Estate. The building features coursed squared limestone rubble and a stone slate roof. It has a stone stack with a moulded top on the front slope facing Barton Lane and a similar stack on the coped verge of the Gloucester Street elevation.
Situated on a corner, the house has one gable facing Barton Lane and another facing Gloucester Street. The entrance front on Barton Lane is two stories with an attic and has a two-window range. The first floor includes a two-light chamfered stone-mullion window with leaded lights to the left and a single-light window in the center. The ground floor features two similar two-light windows with leaded lights and hoodmoulds. The entrance consists of a plank door with a glazed upper panel, also with leaded lights, set in a chamfered stone surround with a hoodmould above. There is a blind oval window in the gable with a flat keyed surround. The building has flush quoins at the left and right angles, with the right angle rounded off at the ground floor.
The elevation facing Gloucester Street is also two stories with an attic and has a one-window range. The first floor features a three-light chamfered stone-mullion window with leaded lights and a hoodmould, along with a similar two-light window in the gable and a three-light window on the ground floor. The right angle has flush quoins. The interior has not been inspected. The building is included for its group value.
