Description

A terrace of six houses, numbered 16 to 26 Watermoor Road, was built in 1829. The front of the terrace is faced with limestone ashlar, while the sides are of coursed squared limestone rubble. The roof is covered with Welsh slate and has three ashlar ridge stacks with moulded tops and largely original 19th-century clay pots.

The terrace is set back from Watermoor Road, with the houses at each end projecting slightly over the central two. The three-storey facade has a six-window arrangement. The first floor has six early 19th-century timber casement windows with glazing bars, set within plain reveals and stone cills. The second floor features six similar windows. The ground floor also has six casement windows, and six doors with six flush panels; numbers 18 to 24 have the upper two panels glazed. A shallow plinth incorporates projecting window cills for the ground floor, and band courses include cills for the first and second floor windows. The building has a moulded stone eaves cornice and a coped parapet.

The interiors were not inspected, but numbers 18 and 20 are noted to contain stick baluster dog-leg staircases with winders, and mahogany grip handrails.

An attached wall to the right is constructed with rat-trap bond brickwork on the inner face and coursed squared limestone rubble on the outer face. A gate pier is built of limestone ashlar with vermiculated rustication and a corniced cap.
