Formerly known as: Nos.5, 7 AND 11 Bowly's Almshouses WATERMOOR ROAD. Almshouses. Dated 1826. Coursed squared limestone rubble; artificial stone slate roof with coped verges with trefoil head stops at apex; 2 ashlar and 2 concrete blockwork ridge stacks retaining some C19 decorative square-section clay pots. Range of 8 almshouses with coped gable to centre with kneelers and trefoil head stops at apex. 2-storey 8-window range. First floor has eight 2-light chamfered stone-mullion windows with C20 metal casements; ground floor has 8 similar windows and eight C20 glazed doors in chamfered stone surrounds with Tudor-arched heads. Full-width verandah to ground floor has artificial stone slate roof with glazed panels supported on square-section timber posts. 3 small ashlar panels with recessed quatrefoil decoration to first floor left and right and in gable; ashlar panel with moulded stone surround above first floor centre has incised lettering: BUILT MDCCCXXVI/ BY CHRISTOPHER BOWLY/ AND ENDOWED BY HIM/ MDCCCXXXVII. Sun Fire Insurance plate above this panel. Flush quoins to left and right angles. Decorative wrought-iron weathervane at apex of gable. INTERIORS not inspected.
