Description
The lock-up located in the grounds of the Cotswold District Council offices in Cirencester dates from the 18th century. It is constructed from limestone ashlar and features a centreless vaulted roof. The building has a rectangular plan and includes two 20th-century plank doors on the north-facing long side, as well as a small window with a wrought-iron grille and chamfered reveal on each of the short sides. It has a shallow plinth. The interior has not been inspected but is reported to be divided into two cells with later doors. Originally, this lock-up was situated on Gloucester Street and was moved to its current location when the workhouse was built in 1837, which now houses the Cotswold District Council offices.
