Description
A group of three houses on Querns Lane, dating to the early 19th century. The front of the properties is rendered, while the left side is stuccoed and the rear of the left-hand house (number 35) is a single-storey brick extension. The right side and rear of the properties are constructed of coursed squared limestone rubble. The roofs are covered in Welsh slate, with two rendered ridge stacks, a further rendered stack on the rear slope to the right, and two brick stacks to the rear extension.
The houses are two storeys with an attic, presenting a five-window front. The first floor windows are a mix of 6/6-pane sashes with segmental reveals, 2-light glazing bar casements, and a blind window, all in similar reveals. A C19 two-light timber casement is found in the lean-to section to the right. The ground floor features 2-light timber glazing bar casements, corresponding to the first-floor windows and accompanied by vermiculated keystones. A blind doorway is also present, in a similar reveal. The ground floor of the lean-to has a 2-light timber casement with a leaded light to the left. The frontages of the left-hand house (number 35) and part of the centre house (number 52) are partially obscured by extensions, including one belonging to the adjacent property at number 54 Querns Lane (which is not included in this listing). A brick single-storey extension to the front of the centre property (number 52) contains a plank door, providing access. The main entrance to number 50 is via a plank door to the right side, along with C20 door and casement windows. On the left side (number 35), there is a 6/6-pane sash window to the first floor, a plank door on the ground floor, and three blocked windows, in addition to a blocked doorway.
The interior of number 50 retains chamfered spine beams, an early 19th-century fireplace, plank and muntin doors, and boarded-in stairs. Number 52 features a dado rail, simple 2-panel shutters, moulded architraves to windows and doors, unchamfered spine beams, an early 19th-century fireplace with a fine cast-iron grate, and dado rail and shutters to the first floor, with boarded-in stairs. The interior of number 35 includes shutters and reveals to the first floor front, similar beams, plank doors, an early 19th-century fireplace with a cast-iron grate, and boarded-in stairs. The original roof structure remains, with collar trusses.
