Description
A house with a probable former stable wing, now a separate house (number 25A), was built in the early 19th century. The main house (number 25) is constructed of coursed squared limestone to the front, coursed limestone rubble to the side, with a concrete tile hip roof and parapet to the front. The wing has a concrete tile roof. There are ashlar stacks on the gable of the front and rear, with a brick ridge and stacks to the rear of the stable wing and a stack on the gable of the range to the rear left.
The main range is three storeys and has a cellar, with a three-window facade. The first floor has three six-over-six sash windows in plain reveals. The second floor has three three-over-three tilting windows disguised as sashes in plain reveals. The ground floor has two six-over-six sash windows in flat, unmoulded surrounds with projecting stone cills. A six-panel door with a decorative fanlight, flanked by carved stone console brackets, is set in a similar flat surround. Other features include a shallow plinth, a band course over the ground and first floors, cill bands to the first and second floors, a moulded stone eaves cornice and a coped parapet.
To the left side of the main house is a long twelve-over-twelve sash window to the staircase, and a three-over-three sash in a segmental-headed opening above. The two-storey and attic stable wing has two 19th century two-light timber casements to the first floor, a single similar three-light window to the ground floor, a plank door with a three-pane overlight, a pair of 20th century garage doors, and an early 19th century six-panel door with upper two glazed panels, a four-pane overlight, and an exposed timber lintel. An upwards extension above the eaves to the right has a two-over-two sash window with a stone cill, flush quoins and a coped parapet.
The rear elevation has six-over-six sash windows and an early 19th century half-glazed door with margin lights, diagonally-set glazing bars, and a fanlight. A small rear wing has two eight-over-eight sash windows, with flush quoins to all angles. The interior was not inspected.
