Description
The Seven Tuns is an inn that dates from the early to mid-17th century, with extensions added in the late 17th to early 18th century, and a stable built in the 19th century. It is constructed from limestone rubble and features a stone slate roof with a brick stack. The building has a rectangular plan with a small extension at a right angle to the rear. There is a single bay extension from the late 17th to early 18th century on the right gable end, and a former stable, now converted, to the right of this extension, which is linked by a brick wall to additional outbuildings at the rear.
To the left gable end, there is a large former stable block that has been partially converted into toilets, although it is not of special interest. The main part of the building is two storeys high, while the former stable block is a single storey with a loft. The facade of the main body has three windows, featuring 2-light wooden casements with horizontal single glazing bars, and an ovolo-moulded stone-mullioned casement on the ground floor of the later extension, with a similar casement at the rear.
The entrance features a central 18th-century four-panel door, which has fielded panels at the top, set within a gabled 20th-century timber-framed porch. The former stable block to the right has a central 4-pane sash window and a pitching window on the right gable end. The building has gable end and lateral stacks. Inside the main body, there is an open fireplace with a bressumer.
