Description

The Old Vicarage is a former vicarage that has been converted into a house. It dates from the late 18th century to early 19th century, possibly built on the site of an earlier house, with a mid-19th century extension designed in the style of Belcher. The building is constructed from thinly-bedded limestone with dressed stone quoins and features a stone slate roof with ashlar stacks.

The main structure consists of two parallel rectangular ranges, with the 19th-century extension and an entrance turret at right angles at the rear. The main body of the building is two storeys high, with an attic and cellar, while the extension is also two storeys. The garden front of the main body is symmetrical with three windows, featuring 12-pane sash windows set within plain dressed stone architraves and lintels, with a band between the floors.

There is a central part-glazed door accessed by three stone steps, sheltered by an open-sided flat-roofed porch supported by Doric columns and an entablature. On the right gable end, there is a 19th-century canted bay that includes a blocked 2-light flat-chamfered stone-mullioned casement that once lit the cellar. The attics at both gable ends have 2-light ovolo-moulded stone-mullioned casements, likely reused, while the other windows on the gable ends and at the rear are sashes with glazing bars, some featuring plain architraves.

The 19th-century extension includes single 8-pane sashes, twin 8-pane sashes, and 12-pane sashes, all with dressed stone surrounds. Access to the entrance turret is via a round-headed plank door with a dressed stone surround featuring an elongated keystone, flanked by twin scrolls, and topped with a plain frieze and twin banded ball finials. The building has gable-end stacks. The interior has not been inspected.
