Description
No 1 Church Row is a cottage located at the end of the row, dating from the late 18th century to early 19th century, with a later extension. At the north gable end, there is a blind quatrefoil dated and initialled '1725 / T.P.' (or D), which is probably not original. The cottage is constructed from thinly-bedded coursed squared and dressed limestone, featuring dressed stone quoins and a stone slate roof. The stacks were restored in the 20th century and also have dressed stone quoins.
The main structure has a rectangular plan, comprising two storeys, an attic, and a cellar, along with a single-storey extension to the left gable end. The symmetrical facade has two windows, which are lit by 19th-century three-light segmental-headed metal casements. There is a single central 2-light dormer with a hipped roof, which is slate-hung. The central entrance consists of a 20th-century segmental-headed part-glazed door, topped with a gabled canopy supported by moulded brackets.
The extension features a central partially blocked segmental-headed doorway, with a 2-light casement window inserted in the blocking. There is a projecting gable-end stack at the left gable end of the main body and another gable-end stack on the extension. The interior has not been inspected.
