Description

This is a detached cottage, dating back to the 17th century and built in two stages, with No. 8 being the earlier section. The cottage is constructed of coursed squared and dressed limestone with a stone slate roof and ashlar stacks. It has a rectangular plan. Small, modern lean-tos have been added to the rear and are not considered to be of particular architectural interest. The cottage is one-and-a-half storeys high and five bays wide. The ground floor has one single-light casement window, one two-light casement window and one three-light stone mullioned casement window. There are three 2-light dormers in the roof. A modern part-glazed door is situated on the left side of No. 9, while No. 8 has a 19th-century plank door with a glazed panel, a substantial timber doorframe, and a curving lintel. Gable end and axial stacks are topped with moulded cappings. The interior has not been inspected. It holds group value as a good example of a vernacular cottage.
