Description
Cold Aston Lodge is an early 18th century and 19th century house, originally three cottages. It is constructed of squared and dressed limestone, with a stone slate roof and ashlar stacks. The main ‘L’ shaped body of the house has a later, probably 19th century, single bay extension to the right gable end. The main body is 1½ storeys high, with two probably 19th century roof dormers on the upper floor, each lit by a 2-light stone-mullioned casement with horizontal glazing bars. There is also one early 18th century gable dormer on the right side, lit by a 2-light double-chamfered stone-mullioned casement with a stopped hood. A three-light double-chamfered stone-mullioned casement with a stopped hood is located on the ground floor below. To the left of a 20th century door is a three-light 19th century casement, with a flat stone canopy featuring a moulded margin and moulded stone corbels above. The single bay extension has 1½ storeys and a dormer window from the eaves, also containing a 2-light casement. A rear extension to the main body features a 2-light double-chamfered stone-mullioned casement in the left-hand wall, and half dormers with 2-light stone-mullioned casements in the right-hand wall. The ground floor of the extension also includes 2-light steel casements and a single canted bay. The interior has not been inspected.
